Wilderness Ambassadors make up one branch of TKO’s Trail Ambassdor Program. These volunteers head out on some of the most beloved Wilderness trails on Mt. Hood, in the Columbia River Gorge, and new this year (2024) to the Drift Creek Wilderness in Siuslaw National Forest to share Leave No Trace principles, trail etiquette, and more with trail users. In partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, volunteers also gather data on physical and social trail conditions and perform some lights stewardship projects, such as moving small obstacles from the trail and putting out abandoned campfires.
This day long training will cover all the specifics of the Wilderness Ambassador program. Topics covered will include safety procedures, advanced public engagement techniques, hike scheduling, and data reporting.
